Thankful Thursdays: Play-Doh

This week I am very thankful for Play-Doh! I have been sick for over a week now and with Brandon back at work, Re is stuck in the condo going crazy! One activity that she loves and keeps her attention is Play-Doh. She played yesterday for over 2 hours, such a needed break for me!

Silly girl!

Yesterday Re was on a roll with all of her silly quotes.  B and I could not stop laughing. We were wanting more.  I really wish I could catch them on video, so that everyone could get to see exactly what we see.

The first two happened at lunch:

1 - Re to Papa, "Papa, when I eat you, you will be crunchy"
2 - Re to Papa, "Papa, when you where a baby, I use to hold you like this and rock you!"

Then at dinner when Re put her head on the table:

B to me, "Look Mama, our little girl is a sleepy head"
Re responded, "But I have a cute smile!"

Redon and keys

So for a month or so, Redon had been demanding our keys to open our door. Once she figured out how to put the key in the keyhole correctly, the rest was quick to follow. I finally got it on video tonight.

PS.  It is also on Facebook. Much easier to see there.  No Brandon here tonight to tell me why or figure out all the computer stuff.

Halloween/Thanksgiving skirt.

While making the blocks for Alex, I thought I would sew some of the girls skirts from a pattern I got from the same blog, Sew Like My Mom.  Did I mention how much I love this blog?  When I went to the fabric store, I ended up finding the exact same fabric she use. How cool!!  I love the fabric because I think it works for both holidays and with them so close together it's perfect.   The pattern she used is so easy and the length is perfect for Re. Hopefully she will be able to wear it next year.

So the blog said she was able to whip these out in 30 min.  Clearly she has been doing this for a long time. I had to measure, iron, sew on rick rack, sew a line, iron, then fold and measure bottom hem line, iron bottom, sew double line, fold and measure top hem line, iron top, sew line, thread elastic, sew together(no picture of this step, so did my best), finish off.

I know it sound like a lot, but it was really easy, just time consuming. Took me about 2 hours on Re's skirt and the rest were a little over an hour.  Thank goodness there were pictures on her website.  OMG, I don't think I would have attempted this without them.

Here's the finished product.  What do you think?  Thoughts?  Need a skirt made????

Sewing Project: Blocks

With Baby Alex being born, I wanted to make something for him.  I found this on one of my favorite websites, Sew Like My Mom.  Once I saw it I knew I needed to learn how.  The blocks are adorable and I love that she shows you how to make everything step by step.  Which is great for me since I am still a beginner. Only my second project since getting my Grandma's sewing machine.

I'm a Doctor

As I was packing up Re's clothes to spend the night at Amma and Saba's house, I asked her to help out.  Here is how it went:


Mama - "Re can you please get your toothbrush and hair brush"
Re - "No, I'm playing with Papa"
Mama - "Can you ask Papa to help you?"
Re - "Papa, can you get my toothbrush and hair brush? I am a doctor!!!!"


Now I get why she hasn't been helping me around the house.  Clearly playing Doctor is a full time job!

Update on New Year's wish list

So wanted to give an update on my New Year's Wish List.  I was planning on doing an update half way through, but 3/4 of the way will just have to do.  

1. Prepare, organize and make things happen for my/our wedding. (think thats a make or break item)     Wedding was a hit!
2. Learn spanish.  Parents got us Rosetta stone, so that should make mountains move in my trying to learn a language.  Working on it, finally finished level 1, but don't know how well it worked, but have 3 more levels to go.
3. Blog more.  Doing good at blogging at least a couple times a month. I am horrible at writing (going to say sorry now for all mistakes), but as Brandon says "if you read and write more, the better you will become" so here is to trying to read and write more! Still not good a writing but all of this writing has to mean improvement right??
4. Actually finish 90X, we seem to take a break after the 1st 3 weeks and then start all over again. Not a chance. Got to week 4, but then it was the honeymoon, never started back.
5. Run the Peachtree Road Race. We are headed in the right direction, we have a jogging stroller (thank you Amma and Saba)   We did it!  Had a great time and ran it in 1 hr 30 min.
6. De-clutter our condo. How did we get so much stuff? Have gotten to most areas.
7. Organize and finances. I think those are on every years list. Nope, I was so much better at this before Re.

Hopefully I can get things together for the last 3 months of the year.

Dress up for 2

We have been playing a lot of dress up lately.  Pretending to be all kinds of wonderful things.  This morning Re really wanted Dyna to join in the fun.  So I pulled out some outfits and halloween costumes that I had for Dyna.  (Go ahead and laugh)  Dyna has all kinds, Snow White, Batman, Dragon, sweaters, rain coat, the list could go on.  Re picked out a dress for Dyna to wear. She was so excited that they could wear dresses together. Dyna was not as excited, actually quite the opposite.  Take a look!

Ballet Class

We had a free demo Ballet Class.  Redon was so excited, she kept getting up set cause were where not at ballet yet.  It's a good thing I waited till the morning to tell her about it.  Otherwise she might not have slept at all.  Anyway, she loved it. Well, parts of it, like the running around, hanging on bars, jumping.  She did not think the whole sitting still and listening was part of ballet.  Good thing it was a demo.  We will have to hold off on ballet for a couple years and then try a demo again.  But can't guarantee that she will be listening by then.

Memory

At lunch today, I asked Redon if she remembered the words to a song and her response was ...."I think a fry would help me remember"


Such a silly girl!  And fries do help with memory loss among other things.

Sewing 101

Growing up my Grandma use to sew me and my sister clothes all the time.  They were some of the coolest stuff ever.  One year when we were young she made us matching (one pink, one purple) cowgirl outfits.  Skirt and vest, with coordinating cowboy boots. Will try to find a photo.  Anyways, she was always sewing, crocheting or baking for people. (and somehow found the time to bet everyone at card games, even today at 88 years old she will destroy anyone at a game of UNO.  It's a game of chance for crying out loud and she runs the board) Recently she gave me her singer sewing machine.  It is amazing and still in really good condition for being 35 years old. (don't know how long they actually last)  Along with the sewing machine came the realization that I have no clue how to sew.  I have only hand sewn things, begged someone to sew for me, or broken down and just bought what I needed. With the latter being the most common.  So awhile back I found some cute fabric at Ikea (who knew) and thought I would make something for Redon, but never could think of anything. But now I have a sewing machine which apparently helps ideas pop in my head.  

So here is my first idea:

Redon is like Brandon and gets really hot at night.  All of Redon's blankets are heavy or just make her sweat to death.  Solution - make her a thin blanket/comforter.

And since I had extra material, a small pillow case.

It turned out pretty good and was easy too! Only took 2 hours, but I spend a lot of that time reading the manual.  Thank goodness it was only straight lines and a simple stitch.  Can't wait to show Grandma, she will be so proud.

Matilda Jane

On Saturday, Redon's grandparents (Grams & PawPaw) came over for a visit. We meet up at Underwood park.  It was just the perfect place, the weather was nice and the trees created tons of shade.  It made for a really nice morning.  So along with getting to see her grandparents, Redon also got some new outfits.  They are all from a brand called Matilda Jane and are just adorable.

I love this dress! It is so cute and the apron is attached with buttons, so easy to take on and off.  After trying the dress on for me this morning, Redon wanted to wear it for the day.  So I said why not, it's not like I was planning on playing with paint today.  It didn't take long for something to happen.  20 min. into wearing the dress and Redon had already pulled off one of the apron buttons.  She works fast at tearing things up.  This time at least it was fixable.  Button is already back on and ready for another round of Redon!  

Uggla

We have been attending a lot of Braves games this season, but never had been to one that gave away anything.  Tonight they were passing out Dan Uggla bobbleheads, we got 3.  (YAY! Uggla is one of my favorite players and he has a great tush (not accurately depicted on the bobblehead))  Redon was so excited she carried hers everywhere, while Brandon and mine went into the book bag we brought.  When we got up to leave the game Redon was concerned that I did not have one.  She remembered Papa had one but not mama.  So without an "a" or "an" she then told Brandon and I, "Mama, I will get you Uggla!"  I just grinned and said, "that's my girl" Brandon just looked at me and said "it better be a bobblehead". HA silly man!

First hair cut

We finally cut Redon's hair.  I was trying to wait as long as I could. Partly to see how long it would actually take before a hair cut was needed and the other cause I just wasn't ready to cut my baby's hair.  But alas it was time and apparently much needed as you can tell from the pictures.  End the end, the last minute at home hair cut went great and Redon loves her new do!

Her curls really did a great job of hiding this mess.

So the other week vista print had a great deal on labels - 140 free, just pay shipping which was $3.  Such a great deal with cute designs.  I got 4 different ones.  One for me with my new last name :)  and 3 for Redon.  Check them out.

Fall Consignment Sale

Yesterday Redon, Nana and I went to the fall consignment sale up in Buford, GA.  It's a bit of a hike, but well worth it. Plus you end up next The Mall of GA and what group of girls doesn't like shopping.  As always we had some great finds.  I was able to pick up some toys for Redon's preschool, which was awesome and so great stuff for her too.  Here are some pics of the clothes (please excuse Redon's hair, it was in a french braid that she didn't want taken out for 2 days)!

Redon's 3rd Birthday Party

Today we had Redon's 3rd Birthday Party at Glenlake park.  We had blueberry coffee cakes for cake and lots of yummy fruit.  The kids enjoyed playing on the playground and using sidewalk chalk.  It was a great day filled with lots of fun and excitement. Redon loved having a birthday party. Too bad it is only once a year.

After view the photos that Brandon and I took at the party we have made not of a few things. 1) Where is the family photo.  No where over Redon's birthday weekend did we take a family photo. Must work on that. 2) No photos of Redon with Grandparents, ugh! Again must work on. 3) Need to take better photos. Half the photos I had to delete because they were blurry or of nothing important.  I should just find a professional photographer and make them our really good friend, then we might get some good photos.  Oh well, notes to remember for next year.

Helping clean

Today I was busy cleaning up around the condo. A much needed event since the place was getting a little crazy and stuff was everywhere.  While I was vacuuming, which is Redon's least favorite thing, she all of a sudden asked if she could help.  Of course I said yes!!  Here is some pics.  Hope she wants to help out next time!

Braves game with Kyle

So last night I had a CPR class for the preschool and while I was away Brandon and Redon went to the Braves game with Kyle.  They all had a great time, but I know Redon had a blast getting to see and hang out with Kyle.  He is such a teddy bear and so sweet to her.  And ever since last year when we went to a couple games with Kyle, Redon expects him to be at all Braves games.  She gets worried/upset/confused when he isn't there.  Talk about love for a man at a Braves game, well and at Macy's we can't walk into one without her asking for him there too.

The W pool

We went swimming today at the W Midtown pool.  Apparently it is open to the public on Sundays, but for us it was a great way to see our good friend Jon Pine in action behind the pool bar. It was a great day for hanging out with friends and drinking drinks at the fancy pool.  It was perfect and a great way to end the weekend!

Getting back into the swing of things!

Brandon and I arrived home from our honeymoon on Monday.  We have spent the last couple of days enjoying and catching up with Redon.  We missed her so much and it is easy to tell she feels the same way.  When we left our condo it was a mess and the magical cleaning fairy didn't come visit us. Oh well maybe next time. So now we are busy cleaning up and reorganizing our whole condo with the wonderful wedding gifts that we were given.  This is a very big task, especially for such a small place.  So out with the old, in with the new all while finding new homes for the old stuff.  

I am hoping to be able to post some photos of our wedding, honeymoon and other events that have happened over the last couple of months.  Things have been crazy and I am now ready to catch everything up to date.  I think I will post as the dates that events happened, so make sure to check back.

Homemade Pizzas

So after being stuck in the snow/ice for the past 3 1/2 days, I ventured out to the store and picked up some fun things and food.  I figured making PIZZA (as she says it) would be a fun activity.  So I sautéed some onions and mushrooms for toppings.  Then the fun times began.  We used sourdough bread, a yummy tomato paste, and mozzarella cheese. Oh, and fresh basil!  Redon had a blast!  Here are our creations:
